It doesn't matter if you have pure bred, pedigree animals or mix breeds/pets - all are catered for here at Broadlands. Pedigree/ show standard animals conform to a set standard set down by either the British Rabbit Council or the British Cavy Council and are judged accordingly to these standards (check out our links page for more information). If you don't have one, not to worry, you can enter any breed of rabbit or cavy into the pet classes (Adult and Junior exhibitors). Rather than a standard, pets are judged on things like friendliness and cleanliness and are a good place to start!!
We have two types of shows - Box shows and Pen/Open shows:
Box shows
These are usually held on a Sunday afternoon at 2pm. Just come along and bring your rabbit or guinea pig in a suitable carrier which is where they will remain for the show. It's low key, relaxed and although you need to be a member, you can join on the day. We always have a good selection of light bites, tea and coffee on offer.
Pen/Open shows
These are a bigger events where rabbits and guinea pigs are placed into specially erected pens and are on display. Pen shows start at 10am and it is important to send in entries in advance (usually a week before) to the club secretary. Entries are higher and are sometimes taken from other clubs - there are usually a sale pen or two! Members of the public are welcome to come and look - its a great opportunity to see numerous breeds all on display in one place.
If you would like to enter please contact the relevant secretary beforehand with you entries and whether or not you would like lunch. If you are unsure of which class to put your rabbit or cavy in - don't worry, just let the secretary know the breed, age and sex and they can place it where it needs to go. Don't forget, rabbits will need to be rung to be shown in the main shows.

Helping out at shows
All shows and organisers rely on the help of members on show days to help with the smooth running of the show. There are lots of jobs that have to be done during a show that members can help out with.
Setting up and taking down of pens
The biggest job on show day is to set up the pens and tables at the start of the day and then take them down again after the show. It will mean getting to the show a little earlier then usual or staying behind a while after the show once the judging has finished.
Stewarding
One of the most vital jobs at any cavy or rabbit show, without it our stock will not be judged. Most judges require two stewards sometimes more if the entry if really big to take the stock to the judging table and back to the pens when a judge indicates you to. It also helps you learn a lot from the judge about the breeds by listening to him or her.
Book Stewarding
Some judges will bring their own book steward to help them, whilst others will want help. It does require a bit of knowledge to start with but as you get more confident it can be good fun with the right judge!
Putting out prize cards
We do not seem to have any problem wit putting prize cards on the pens, we have several helping hands, but if you would like to help do it, please ask the Cavy or Rabbit Secretary.
